Brian Thomas

Brian Thomas

Hi, I'm Brian. I've been walking in Hill, Moorland and Mountain areas for most of my life. In 2019, I moved from London to Devon, just off Dartmoor, so now I don't have so much travelling to do before I go walking.

I completed my own bronze silver and gold DofE quite a while ago and I've been helping others complete theirs on and off ever since. In 2008, I became involved in training other leaders to supervise and assess DofE expeditions and I've been running and helping to run them ever since. I worked for FEL CIC for several years before becoming the Expedition Manager.

I've been involved with expeditions in the countryside around London, all over Wales, Dartmoor, the Peak District and Scotland, as well as a few in France and Germany. One Bavarian expedition group encountered very high daytime temperatures which they dealt with by getting up in time to walk in the cool dawn hours before seeking shade to have a siesta, cook lunch and work on their aim, finishing off by walking to their next campsite after the temperature dropped. They also consumed a lot of water!

I hold MTA Hill and Moorland Leader and keep all my associated qualifications up to date.

Away from Hill Walking, I'm keen on paddling kayaks and canoes in all sorts of circumstances and I've been coaching for many years. I live with my wife; we have adult children and a grandson. We love spending time with them all when we can.

I look forward to working with you on your next expedition!
